I really wanted to record a song with a more intimate feel. No effects. I wanted to try my hand at mixing a very simple and natural song. I’m pretty happy with everything sonically, especially the vocals.
However, I learned something. I cannot record a quiet instrument like a finger picked guitar at my place. The noise on the guitar track is horrendous, but you can also hear my neighbors dogs barking faintly in the background at the beginning AND the end of the track!! Shows you how annoying those dogs can be. They never shut up. Oh well, I may be moving soon, so now I just have to solve my computer noise issue or get someone to help me record.
Work is now finished on my friend Annie Lash’s debut release “This Life Of Mine”! It’s been a long process, but well worth the effort. I’m pleased that she has allowed me to have my hand in the arranging and production of this album as I know this project has been long in the making. I am also very excited to see that she has held her release party recently and is now performing around Nashville!
You can hear “This Life Of Mine” at www.annielash.com as well as view her upcoming performance dates.
Or…here’s a taste of the project. The first song on the album -
The Aftermath – by Jesse Thompson.
I had been listening to a lot of Franz Ferdinand and really wanted to write something in that vein. I think live drums would have made this song much better. Maybe someday I’ll spend the time and money to make it happen.
Although my focus was definitely on the production, lyrically it’s the most edgy that I’ve written. I think I’m gonna continue exploring this sort of song.
